I am often surprise and disappointed that some of my friends still subscribe to The Tablet and put it on sale. Frankly I hope they will stop doing so when they read John Smeaton's most recent post on that evil magazine which, in my humble opinion, does the devil's work.
It is also time, imho, that bishops and archbishops stopped writing for it..
John Smeaton's post can be read HERE

I agree with John Smeaton's criticism of John Cruddas. His record on abortion is utterly unacceptable. However, it's sad that the only time one can comment on Seaton's views is when you provide the opportunity. He allows no comments so, when he gets off his pro-life stance and pontificates on everything else, he avoids any criticism. Can you get him to get off his high horse and engage in discussion on his own blog. What is he afraid of?

ReplyDeleteI broadly agree with your comment, and I usually, though not always, agree with most of Mr Smeaton's comments. I too wish he would allow comments on his blog, Sending him an email is possible though hardly conducive to discussion.
I am afraid that I am, sadly, of the opinion that SPUC persons generally think that their stance on ANY matter is the only one possible, ergo, no discussion needed or possible.
Thanks for this EF. I believe John Smeaton is doing what he thinks best, but like you, I have "issues" with SPUC, although I am a life member. I think the pro-life situation with regards to these organizations is not good, and has been difficult for some time. As most people will agree there should not be so many of them. This tends to blunt the message, and I do not think John should be so critical on what is effectively a pro-life blog. John Smeaton does not equal SPUC.
ReplyDeleteFather John,
ReplyDeleteI urge caution! In my personal experience to express even the mildest criticism of SPUC or to question them is to be regarded, and risk being misrepresented, by some SPUC members as being pro-abortion!
Best wishes for new Year,
