A group of about forty young people from different countries held a peaceful demonstration yesterday morning just after the Angelus address by the Pope
The Indignation Movement in recent months has organized numerous protest actions world-wide pointing the finger at those who caused the economic crisis. The protest at St. Paul’s in London was one such.
The protesters, some wearing a shirt with the rainbow colours of peace, started at the end of the Angelus address by Benedict XVI, who gave them space to sit in St. Peter's Square. They sat in a circle under the eyes of law enforcement officers and police.
Then they rolled on the ground with a banner that read, "Get up and walk", words borrowed from the famous passage in which the Gospel says that Jesus heals the paralytic and used by the protesters as an invitation to participate in the mobilization of the Indignant. The sit-in continued until 14.00.
Personally I am glad that the Vatican authorities facilitated the protest, notwithstanding that such protests can be exploited by those with a different agenda.
