International Eucharistic Congress to have an ecumenical programme

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin and Church of Ireland Archbishop of Dublin and Glendalough, Dr Michael Jackson, joined together at the Church of Saints Columbanus and Gall in Milltown on Wednesday to launch The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is celebrated from 18th- 25th January and brings Christian congregations together to pray and reflect. The theme of the week is “We will all be changed by the victory of our Lord Jesus Christ”.

There are a number of events taking place across the Archdiocese of Dublin to mark The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, including an ecumenical service tonight in St Patrick’s Church, Dalkey.

The organising committee of the 50th International Eucharistic Congress chose the beginning of The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity as the occasion for the launch of the ecumenical programme of the Congress.

The ecumenical programme will take place on the first day of the Congress, (Monday 11th June) and will celebrate and reflect on the relationship of Communion into which Christians are drawn through baptism. A liturgy of Word and Water will be celebrated by Archbishop Martin and Archbishop Jackson.
