Why do I bother, even to ask that question, I ask myself, and indeed anybody else who might be inclined to pay any attention to anything that a a C of E bishop might say?
Sadly because they seldom open their mouths without covering society with mental diarrhoea. They prevaricate and waffle. A recent example is the Archbishop of York's statement that those Anglicans who join the Catholic Church under the new Apostolic Constitution wont be real Catholics! As if a Protestant Archbshop could decide who will and wont be Catholic!
Yet another example is the report produced by the Revision Committee set up by the C Of E Synod in respect of women bishops and pastoral care ( they wont get any!) for those who cannot accept them, i.e. chiefly Anglo-Catholics, so called. For the full report, due to given today by the Bishop of Manchester to Synod. go to Ruth Gledhill in the Times or Damian Thompson in The Telegraph.
A third example is the news that some C of E Bishops want to postpone a decision in respect of recognising those Christians in North America who reject "gay" bishops . and vicars who openly flout traditional Christian teaching. Some C of E bishops have tabled a proposal that Synod postpone recognising the breakaway groups in America. Would that be because the breakaway groups are more Christian than the C of E ?
The fourth and almost laughable example is what the Archbishop of Canterbury says in his foreword to a book of essays to be published next week. the Archbishop states that loss of faith in politicians is damaging Britain!
Nothing about the damage done by the loss of faith in bishops who seem to have lost faith in God, or who regard God's Word as a regrettable inconvenience to be smoothed over, or should that be smothered?, by garrulous reports produced by ad hoc committees. Setting up Committees means that the C of E bishops can avoid taking decisions. Heaven forbid that a C of E bishop should have to take a decision for truth instead of following and pandering to the lowest form of popular "culture". But that's the C of E for you. It was founded to favour the sexual proclivities of Henry VIII,and thereby struck a blow, against Marriage, and society, and has never departed from sanctioning aberrant sexual proclivities, or indeed sanctioning anything that continues to strike against Marriage. But then...it is being true to the purpose for which it was founded. And they talk about damaging society!

Pass me the sick bag, please.

ReplyDeleteOnly one decade? Now I am upset and mad at myself for being so restrained! I might, with a a little more effort, have merited all 20 decades if I had posted my UNpublished thoughts!:-) But thanks anyway. Mind you, if I really try I could have you on your knees for years to come praying for me. Now there's an attractive temptation........
Ftaher, surely the Bishop's comment is symptomatic of that which is driving people out of the C of E and indeed, causing some of them to look to Rome.
ReplyDeleteThat being the case, are we really that surprised?
While many share your concerns, perhaps you could have shown a little moderation in the way you expressed yourself?
ReplyDeleteFather, the way you expressed yourself couldn't be bettered!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kilmac. Those Church of England bishops should stop being so anally devoted and preoccupied
ReplyDeleteJoseph D.
Father, message from Our Lady, who knows you are doing her work. She constantly, holds you, particularly, in mind. Come on now Father, been praying for you all morning, and the word back to me, says you signed up for this battle a while back? Is that true?
ReplyDeleteI'll keep saying my decades until I am unable, know you have Our Lady close to you, truly, know that. Ros. Shadowlands
Joseph D;
ReplyDeleteI think to use the phrase 'anally devoted and preoccupied' in the context of Anglican Bishops is dangerous . . . especially given their current fascination with homosexuality !
The language of this post is an utter disgrace to the true Catholic spirit and contrary to what the Holy Father said recently about the use of the media.

ReplyDeleteYour comment, perhaps unwittingly, confirms the relevence of my comment.

ReplyDeleteI suspect the writer of the blog had that in mind when he chose the heading for this post! I have sent him an email asking for confirmation of my suspicions.

ReplyDeleteThanks for your email. You are very perceptive! Are you in CID?
Why is it people end up using 'naughty' words in order to get a reaction? ;) Fr EF makes many interesting posts on here - where was all the dialogue on his other posts??

Get over yourself and pray for Father, the Rosary.
When was the last time you did something wrong, and got forgiven? Remember.
Father needs prayers, not criticism. So pray already!!!!
I will, anyway.
Damian Thompson has a tongue in cheek article yesterday on The Splendour of Anglicanism. Some of the comments on it are priceless
