What does the Pope's address to the Bishops yesterday actually mean?

I published the address in full yesterday without comment, apart from the implied comment in the heading I gave to what I posted.
It seems to me that the Holy Father was paternally correcting his children when he reminded them of what they have been given to preach, and the importance of doing so with a united voice. He also urged them to be apostolic, both in respect of contributing to the well-being of the State, by challenging it; in reaching out to disaffected Anglicans; and in preaching to those who dissent within the Church. He really asked them to be braver and wiser and to practise discernment.
I think the Pope spoke volumes by what he did not say! No praise for Catholic Education or schools. The very omission of any reference indicates that matters are so bad that the Holy Father could not find anything to praise, however faintly.
I hope that the Bishops will now reform the CES, and ensure that future appointments to the Catholic Education Service will be people who subscribe fully to Catholic teaching, belief and practice
Make the CES what it is meant to be, an agency of the Catholic Bishops' Conference especially in matter of teaching of sexual ethics, and Sacramental life, and not a quango , funded by Catholics, serving the Labour Party philosophy.
Time for their Graces and Lordships to make new episcopal appointments, and get rid of Bishop McMahon O.P. from having any national influence on matters educational.
Am I mistaken in my assessment?

  1. Sounds like a spanking couched politely to me! :)
The message from the Holy Father is,"Get your house in order or I'll do it for you!"

    God bless the Pope!

  3. I agree with you all:)

The next post up on "we don't teach children that it's the Body and Blood of Christ anymore" is only one of many reasons why the Pope is having to do what he's doing!!
