Preparing for Easter, through Lent - A good Confession is best start.

I am grateful to Father Beatty of St. Ann's Banstead ( see side panel of blogs)for the above video from his website. Father has published a follow up video also.

I am always happy to post on that wonderful Sacrament of Reconciliation, and I also recommend Father Paul Johnson's blog on preparing for Easter.
When I was in a parish the Confessional was staffed on three weekdays - twice on Saturdays - and was much appreciated, not only by parishioners but also by people visiting the town for shopping from surrounding parishes. As with most parishes, Confession was also available at other times by reasonable request.
I often wonder why people add to their burdens of life when some could be relieved through this great gift from Our Lord. He gave us this gift, not because we deserve it, but because He knew we would need it. I try to receive that Sacrament at least weekly and I find it refreshing and a tremendous help in the daily struggles of life. I know several priests who experience the same in this Sacrament.

I also commend for Lent the following lovethechurch.com/lent blog (see side blog panel) you might wish to add to your Favourite section to dip into daily in Lent or even occasionally. I have had emails for me to produce for Easter similar postings as I did before Christmas, but I will l not do so as there are great, and more in depth, blogs on the matter available. A glance at Lovethechurch or British Catholic blogs should help.

  1. Thank you for the 'name-check' Father.

Hooray! Hooray! Hooray! I wholeheartedly suppport your views on the reception of the Sacrament of Confession.

It's also important for the priest to be available to celebrate the Sacrament as often as possible.

I also make it available after each of the Masses on the first Sunday of each month and I find that for many people this time 'works for them' as they are already there on the spot.

  3. If only, Father, more people went to Confession more often, I am sure that the whole life of the Church in Great Britain would be deepened and strengthened.

Bless you for encouraging this vital aspect of our Catholic life.
