Bishops should reform the CES (Catholic Education Service) as soon as possible

We know that the CES has failed the Church and Society in negotiating with the Government when Ed Balls starts praising the sex education given in a Catholic school where a nurse provides students with information about the full range of contraception and STIs and details of local services and where abortion, is also discussed in a non-judgemental they say !(- non-judgemental provided it is not Christian!)) way with the RE syllabus requiring students to understand the spectrum of pro- and anti-choice views on abortion, (as though they were equally valid!) .
Two people should be removed as soon as possible: Bishop McMahon,OP and Oona Stannard. Neither appears able to hold the pass in negotiations with the Government. Perhaps they were elevated to positions beyond their capacity. I think the CES needs as its head a committed Catholic who was a senior Civil Servant at Secretary or Assistant Secretary level of a department . Meantime committed Catholics should refuse to contribute anything to the CES collection (a bit late for this year, I know.) The fact is that some changes only come about when finances are reduced. One might be surprised how often money, or the lack of it, influences major decisions in dioceses as well as nationally in the Bishops' Conference. Indeed sometimes it seems that money rather than morality takes precedence! And "being liked" becomes more important than "being right".

Well said Father. Surely the time has come for Miss Stannard to be removed. If this does not happen soon then Bishop McMahon must go as well. If anyone has any doubts about what is going on please read what John Smeaton of Spuc has been saying at:

Just found your blog via the sidebar of the excellent Fr Boyle.
You are so right about the CES.
I wrote to my bishop asking for a meeting to discuss the Bill presently winging through Parliament. The CES have not only decided that government sponsored sexual grooming is just grand but they have also back the appalling draconian Schd 1 against families who home educate.
I begged for a meeting and have received an email back telling me the bishops defer to the CES and I should contact them.
Since when did the CES and someone like Ms Stannard have rights over what I do with my own children in my own home?!

Maybe remind the bishop that he has no authority to abdicate his responsibilities or delegate his authority to teach the faith to those who appear not to know the Faith. A note to The Congregation for the Clergy, and the Congregation for Bishops might help. I think the former has responsibilty for Education
Keep up your good work...do not despair

That is an appalling response to your situation!
Surely it cannot be that Bishops defer to the likes of Oona Stannard? They must defer to the Magisterium of the Church, to the Holy Father, to the Archbishop, even, but not to the sheep of the flock. The Bishops are the Shepherds, they are supposed to lead, not be led by! And certainly not led astray by...
